Teal Pumpkin: Allergy Friendly Candy

It’s that time of year again where there are tricks and treats are in full swing. So how do you decipher what to buy? Do you purchase allergy-friendly candy only or maybe find some middle ground? Here’s a friendly reminder that there are currently eight allergens with sesame soon to be officially on packages making for a total of nine. So for purposes of this list, we are only considering the current top eight. Outside of containing the top eight allergens, something else to think about is how severe of an allergy your child or friend’s child has to one or more of these allergens. With that in mind, make sure you read not only the ingredients but also the manufacturing statement to be aware of whether the product was made in a facility that contains these top eight allergens where cross-contamination is possible. So if you think that all chocolate is out, think again because some delicious treats still contain cocoa to be able to pass out to your trick-or-treaters this year.
